Baker Mayfield wins Walter Camp Award as college football's player of the year

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield has won the Walter Camp Award, given to the college football player of the year.

Mayfield beat out Saquon Barkley, running back from Penn State; Lamar Jackson, Louisville quarterback; Bryce Love, running back from Stanford; and Rashaad Penny, running back from San Diego State.

He also nabbed the Davey O'Brien Award as the nation's best quarterback.

Mayfield completed 71% of his passes for 4,340 yards and 41 touchdowns, leading the Sooners to a 12-1 record and a spot in the college football playoff.

Eight of the past 10 winners were quarterbacks.
