In case Mark Emmert and the NCAA get any ideas about imposing sweeping penalties on Baylor, they’d be wise to remember the debacle that occurred the last time they decided to wade into the middle of the cesspool.
The ink on the Penn State consent decree was barely dry when it became clear the NCAA had overreached. Within three years, the decree had been vacated, and the NCAA was forced to walk back almost every penalty it had imposed.
Once a cautionary tale of the terrible things that can happen when universities let their priorities get out of whack, Penn State became a martyr.
