When the Georgia Tech offense is humming, as it was during the first quarter of its game against Virginia Tech on Thursday night, it is a joy to watch, a precision machine that gulps down yardage in big chunks. Of course, the first quarter against the Hokies was the exception, not the rule, not only for the season but for Thursday’s game. Paul Johnson’s team is never predictable. When no one expected the Yellow Jackets to win last year, they up and took the ACC Coastal. This year, they went into Week 3 at No. 14, and they came out of Thursday night 3-7 -- with a win over Florida State.
