The college football season is approaching it's halfway point, but there is still plenty happening off the field on the recruiting trail. Ohio State and Alabama currently have the top two 2017 classes, yet several top prospects are still uncommitted. Here are all the latest recruiting news and rumors you need to know:
5-star Alabama commit says "best visit" was to Ann Arbor
Five-star offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood (Pensacola, FL) committed to Alabama in June 2015, but it seems like he isn't completely sold on that commitment. After taking an official visit to Michigan, he tweeted that it was the best visit he had:
Tbh my Michigan visit it was by far the best visit I've ever been on. Best fans and an amazing city I'll definitely be back #GoBlue
— Alex Leatherwood (@Alskee_) October 4, 2016
Leatherwood is still also considering Florida, Miami and USC, but Michigan is thought to be Alabama's biggest competition. The 6'6", 327-pounder is ranked as the No. 2 offensive tackle and No. 5 overall prospect in the country.
4-star WR close to a decision
Four-star wide receiver Oliver Martin (Iowa City, IA) is one of the top uncommitted wideouts left in the country, and he says he has narrowed down his list and is close to making a decision.
“I’ve narrowed down my schools a little bit,” Martin said. “I’m still kind of looking into all of them but I’m really interested in Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oregon, those schools.”
Martin, the top player in the state of Iowa, is thought to be favoring either Notre Dame or Michigan. The 6'1", 190-pounder is ranked as the No. 10 wideout and No. 67 overall prospect in the country by 247sports.
4-star ATH close to committing to Florida?
Christopher Henderson, a 4-star athlete from Miami, FL, originally committed to Miami before recently decommitting. Now, he is all but certain to commit to Florida, according to 247sports:
Henderson decommitted from Miami on Monday and has taken six visits to Florida since January. His Crystal Ball now reads 100 percent to Florida with seven total predictions.
Before his decommitment, Henderson had three 247sports Crystal Ball flip predictions to the Florida Gators and there have been more than 30 total flip predictions for 2017 prospects over the past month from industry experts.
Henderson is rated as the No. 18 ATH and No. 156 overall prospect in the country.
