The college basketball season is set to begin this Friday as teams open practice for the 2014-15 season with "Midnight Madness". As has become tradition, the first coaches poll was released on the Thursday before.

Kentucky opens the season as favorites to win the national championship after falling short in the title game last year. The Wildcats lost only two starters from that team and bring in another talented recruiting class full of All-Americans.
Villanova is the only team from the Big East to be ranked preseason, while the ACC has four of the top 10 teams.
