The folks over at Forbes Magazine released their list of college football's most valuable teams, and there's plenty of interesting entrants on a list headlined by a program who has its own television network to its credit. Without further ado, here is the list of The 10 Most Valuable Teams In College Football.
10. Georgia Bulldogs
Overall team value: $83 million
Revenue: $66 million
Profit: $39 million
UGA athletics sends over $4 million of its profits back to its parent university each year.
9. Ohio State Buckeyes
Overall team value: $87 million
Revenue: $66 million
Profit: $39 million
Expect Ohio State to rocket up this list at the end of 2015 following the team's triumph in the inaugural run of the College Football Playoff.
8. Oklahoma Sooners
Overall team value: $93 million
Revenue: $71 million
Profit: $43 million
The OU athletic department contributed over $4 million of its earning to the university's various athletic programs in 2014.
7. Tennessee Volunteers
Overall team value: $94 million
Revenue: $70 million
Profit: $49 million
The Vols saw the highest rise in team value for any program in the nation in 2014, jumping 49% from their 2013 mark.
6. Auburn Tigers
Overall team value: $97 million
Revenue: $75 million
Profit: $39 million
A trip to the last-ever BCS National Championship in 2014 helped the team boost its team value by a staggering 26%.
5. LSU Tigers
Overall team value: $103 million
Revenue: $88 million
Profit: $50 million
The LSU athletic department sent $7.2 million of its windfall to its parent university in 2014, supporting a variety of academic initiatives in Baton Rouge.
4. Alabama Crimson Tide
Overall team value: $107 million
Revenue: $95 million
Profit: $53 million
Alabama spent $41 million in 2014 -- far and away the most of any college football program in the nation. Regardless, they still posted the third-highest profit margin in the FBS.
3. Michigan Wolverines
Overall team value: $117 million
Revenue: $91 million
Profit: $65 million
The Wolverines could easily climb into the top two next year with the marketing draw of new head coach and former UM quarterback Jim Harbaugh.
2. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Overall team value: $122 million
Revenue: $81 million
Profit: $48 million
South Bend plays host to around 63,000 visitors from outside of the city on gamedays -- visitors who pump an average of nearly $200 into the local economy.
1. Texas Longhorns
Overall team value: $131 million
Revenue: $113 million
Profit: $74 million
The Texas Longhorns are reaping the rewards of their Longhorn Network deal, despite the team's 2014 transition from Mack Brown to Charlie Strong costing them $11 million in profits for the year.
