Upsets are the lifeblood of college football, and with conference play getting underway for many of the country's top teams this weekend, we're bound to see a few unexpected results on Saturday. Here are four teams that are on upset alert today:
(3) TCU at Texas Tech - 4:45 pm ET, FOX
The Horned Frogs have suffered numerous injuries on defense, specifically to their linebacking core, and their defense has struggled mightily because of it. They gave up 37 points to a much less talented SMU team, and Texas Tech has the third ranked offense in the country. This game will big an exciting shootout, and may come down to whoever has the ball last. Bet on the Red Raiders to keep this one extremely close throughout, even if they don't win.
(14) Texas A&M at Arkansas - 7:00 pm ET, ESPN
Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema was called out by Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury for not having a "tough" team in the Red Raiders' victory last week, and went on to say that the Aggies would do the same this weekend. The Razorbacks are in a freefall having lost their last two games to Toledo and Texas Tech, and they need a big win to get their season back on track. A desperate team is a dangerous team, and Arkansas certainly fits the bill.
(9) UCLA at (16) Arizona - 8:00 pm ET, ABC
The first in a trio of intriguing Pac-12 night games on the slate today, UCLA and Arizona meet in a battle of the top two Pac-12 South contenders. Bruins freshman quarterback Josh Rosen has struggled after a great performance in his debut, while Arizona is looking to gain respect and prove that last year's division title and Fiesta Bowl berth wasn't a fluke. Look for the Wildcats' experienced defense to confuse Rosen and force multiple turnovers in an Arizona victory.
(13) Oregon vs. (18) Utah - 8:30 pm ET, FOX
Oregon's College Football Playoff hopes are on the line as they can't afford another loss after falling to Michigan State two weeks ago, and like Arizona, Utah is looking for a win to gain respect in a crowded Pac-12 race. It's also a great matchup between Oregon's spread high-octane offense and Utah's stout defense - and defense usually comes out on top in those matchups.
(19) USC at Arizona State - 10:30 pm ET, ESPN
This game is between two teams that desperately need a win to get their seasons back on track. Arizona State lost their opener to Texas A&M and hasn't been ranked since, while USC was upset by Stanford and may have lost their chance to make the College Football Playoff. Both teams will play with an intensity and desperation that will make this one exciting, but also give the advantage to the home team. The Sun Devils beat USC on the road last year, and they'll likely repeat that feat tonight.
