The coaching carousel is already spinning at top gear, with rumors flying everywhere in the world of college football. Some teams like Virginia Tech and USC have already made coaching hires. Other schools like Miami (FL) are still searching for a new head coach. Georgia hired Kirby Smart and Maryland hired D.J. Durkin in the past 24 hours, but we're here to catch you up on the latest rumors surrounding the programs still searching for coaches. With that in mind, here are 4 College Football Coaching Rumors You Need To Know For Dec. 2nd:
Larry Fedora Working On Extension With UNC
Fedora has done a wondeful job with North Carolina this season, getting them all the way to the ACC Championship game. Fedora's name came up for a few jobs this offseason, including South Carolina. However, UNC is working to extend Fedora, reports Scout.com.
"They are in discussions," the source told InsideCarolina.com on Wednesday. "They want it to be a workable deal. They want him here for the long term."
If Fedora stays at UNC, that's another candidate the Gamecocks will miss out on.
NOTE: This first rumor original focused on Mark Richt interviewing for the Virginia job. However, Richt has reportedly taken the Miami job, so we've updated this with a new rumor.
Ohio State DC Chris Ash Up For Two Jobs?
Coordinators at successful, high-profile schools are often candidates for lower-tier Power 5 programs, and that's the case with Ohio State defensive coordinator Chris Ash. According to Bruce Feldman, Ash is an option for the Rutgers and Syracuse jobs. However, he's also reportedly pulled out of the Syracuse job. The Ohio State defense has improved since Ash arrived in Columbus two seasons ago. He's just 41 years old and will likely be a head coach somewhere in the near future.
Pruitt To Alabama?
Pruitt was linked to the South Carolina job yesterday and he'll likely be somewhere other than Georgia. Football Scoop is reporting that Pruitt won't be back and could head to Alabama.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Jeremy Pruitt will not be retained and is expected to be targeted by Alabama https://t.co/sNnVtycOD5

Alabama needs a defensive coordinator since Smart took the head coaching gig at Georgia. Pruitt has ties to Alabama, having worked with Nick Saban from 2007 to 2012.
Will Muschamp Working On Staff For South Carolina Job?
South Carolina wanted Smart, but with Georgia snatching him up, the Gamecocks are still searching. Former Florida head coach Will Muschamp is on their list to replace Steve Spurrier and Muschamp may already be in the process of assembling a staff.
Will Muschamp reaches out to Jeff Scott to gauge interest in becoming South Carolina's OC. Details in a few at https://t.co/pU2IPrM4aR

Take that report with a grain of salt, especially since there's another rumor that the Gamecocks want Oklahoma's offensive coordinator. The rumor mill should continue to churn at full speed around South Carolina until they hire a coach.
