The return of Kyrie Irving shakes up the NBA’s landscape as the Cavs look to pad their lead atop the Eastern Conference.

In recent years the NBA’s Eastern Conference was thought to be weaker and an easier path to the playoffs than the Western Conference. So far this season that does not appear to be the case. The way-too-soon playoff picture in the East is close, and I mean close. The 11th worst team, the Detroit Pistons, sits only 3.5 games back from the best team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. Remember, only eight from each conference advance to the playoffs.
