San Francisco (AFP) - Brazilian big man Anderson Varejao was released Friday by the Golden State Warriors, opening a roster spot for the NBA's winningest club that appears to be for guard Briante Weber.
Varejao, a 34-year-old center, appeared in 14 games for the Warriors this season, averaging 1.3 points and 1.9 rebounds. He joined the team last February after more than 11 seasons with Cleveland, then went against the Cavaliers in last year's NBA Finals.
The Sun-Sentinel newspaper in South Florida reported that former Miami Heat guard Briante Weber, 24, accepted a 10-day contract with the Warriors over offers from Miami and Charlotte.
