Teams win and teams lose; teams are liked and teams are disliked. Interestingly enough, the two seem do not seem to have much of a correlation. It is certainly much more entertaining to watch a good team play than it is a bad team. The intensity and creativity that flourishes when great teams play against one another is inspiring in a way that a matchup of bad teams simply cannot replicate.
There’s a reason last year’s NBA Finals was the most watched Finals since 1998: both the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors were great teams—in the Warriors’ case maybe the best team ever—and their rivalry only enhanced their greatness by making them fight tooth-and-nail every single game of the series.
