The Dirk Nowitzki farewell tour is turning out similarly to that of Kobe Bryant’s a year ago. Sure, there may not be the gift-giving, brutal inefficiency, and general basketball horror, but there’s losing -– a lot of losing. At 2-13, the Dallas Mavericks have the worst record in the NBA. And with four back-to-backs in the month of December, their schedule isn’t exactly easing up.

Yes, injuries have plagued the Mavericks through the first month of the season. Deron Williams and Devin Harris –- two reliable, veteran point guards –– have missed substantial game time.
