New York (AFP) - Sevyn Streeter, the singer whose national anthem performance was canceled by the Philadelphia 76ers in a controversial move last month, will perform it next month, the NBA club announced Saturday.
Streeter was wearing a "We Matter" jersey, a reference to the "Black Lives Matter" campaign in response to controversial police shootings of black men across the United States, when she was denied her chance to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" before the 76ers' season opener October 26 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
But the 76ers backtracked from their original stance and the ryhthm and blues performer will be wearing the jersey with the "We Matter" slogan when she sings the anthem before Philadelphia's December 16 home game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
