Regrading The Terrible 2017 Dunk Contest

That was a horrible dunk contest.

From a failed drone experiment to a lame DJ Khaled cameo to a dude who did the same dunk three times but was still able to win, Saturday night’s dunk contest was not just bad, but it was actually embarrassing.

However, where I place the most blame was with the—and I’m using this term very lightly—”judging” of the competition.

The most egregious example: Derrick Jones Jr. missed all three of his penultimate dunk attempts and received a score of 37 (two 8’s and three 7’s from the five judges) to which TNT commentator Kenny Smith astutely asked, “How [do] you get an eight [when] you missed every dunk?
