NBA star Ray Allen has officially announced his retirement, explaining his decision in a letter for The Players' Tribune.
Allen, 41, has not played since the 2013–14 season, but was mulling a comeback before this season.
"I write this to you today as a 41-year-old man who is retiring from the game," Allen writes in the essay titled "Letter to My Younger Self." "I write to you as a man who is completely at peace with himself."
Allen won NBA championships in 2008 with the Celtics and in 2013 with the Heat, when he became a postseason hero for making a corner three-pointer in the Finals to elevate the Heat over the Spurs.
