Phoenix police arrest WNBA star Griner and fiance for assault

PHOENIX, April 23 (Reuters) - U.S. women's basketball star Brittney Griner and her fiance, fellow WNBA player Glory Johnson, have been arrested in Arizona on charges of assault with intent to injure and disorderly conduct, jail records showed on Thursday.

Griner, who has played with the Phoenix Mercury WNBA team since 2013, and Johnson, who plays for the WNBA's Tulsa Shock, were booked into the Maricopa County Jail in downtown Phoenix on Wednesday and released early on Thursday, the online records showed.

Local TV station ABC15 reported that the two women were arrested following a "domestic violence situation" at the home they share in the city's western suburb of Goodyear.
