Josh Smith, once an elite two-way player, signed a veteran’s minimum contract with the Clippers this offseason worth only $1.5 million. He’ll also collect $5.4 mil from the Pistons, who, to the surprise of many, waived him last December and used the stretch provision on his contract (meaning the team can shell out $5.4 million to him per year through 2019 instead of $14 million per year for the next three seasons. This move provides Detroit with much more cap flexibility).
But even given Smith’s struggles, a one-year contract worth $1.5 million doesn’t seem commensurate with his body of work.
