Basketball-Euroleague playoff race intensifies as CSKA advance

BELGRADE, March 18 (Reuters) - Red Star Belgrade and Olympiakos Piraeus boosted their hopes of reaching the Euroleague's knockout stage on Friday after CSKA Moscow sealed their quarter-final berth with three games to spare.

Red Star overturned a 19-point deficit in a 78-72 win at Spanish team Unicaja Malaga and Olympiakos breezed past Zalgiris Kaunas 74-59 after six-time winners CSKA beat Laboral Kutxa Vitoria 90-78 on Thursday.

The Russian giants will be joined in the knockouts by Fenerbahce Istanbul, who booked their quarter-final spot last week, while six playoff places are still up for grabs.

Trailing 49-30 early in the third quarter, Red Star produced a sizzling second half to edge closer to their first Euroleague knockout-stage berth.
