Al Attles, who played, coached and served as general manager over decades with the Golden State Warriors, died Tuesday at the age of 87.
Attles joined the Philadelphia Warriors when he was drafted in the fifth round of the 1960 NBA draft. The 6-foot-0 guard averaged 8.9 points, 3.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in 711 games with the Warriors over 11 seasons. He had 11 points when Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points for the Warriors against the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962.
After his playing career, Attles coached the Warriors from 1970 to 1983, leading them to the 1975 NBA championship with a four-game sweep of the Washington Bullets.
