Kobe Bryant’s death on Sunday shocked the sports world, and Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks have taken a major step toward honoring Kobe Bryant. Mark Cuban announced that no Maverick will ever wear the number 24 again, and Kobe’s jersey will now hang in the rafters of the American Airlines Center. Kobe Bryat will become just the fourth player to have his number retired by the Dallas Mavericks along with Brad Davis, Derek Harper and Rolando Blackman.
Last week, the Dallas Mavericks traded for Willie Cauley-Stein of the Golden State Warriors to address their major need at center with the injury and loss of Dwight Powell. Willie Cauley-Stein is an above-average defender around the rim and in the low post, but he also fills a huge need for the Mavericks as an athletic, rim-rolling lob threat of a center. Cauley-Stein spent a lot of his career in Sacramento with the Kings, where he played with Seth Curry and Justin Jackson, who are now Dallas Mavericks. The former King and Warrior is now a Maverick with Curry and Jackson.

It’s never too early to look ahead to the 2021 NBA free agent class, which is expected to be one the most stacked of all time. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Rudy Gobert are two players that will be in high demand, and according to Kevin O’Connor, the Dallas Mavericks will be targeting both of them with the max cap space that they are expected to have that summer. Giannis Antotkounmpo or Rudy Gobert could easily be the third piece that is missing in Dallas to play alongside Kristaps Porzingis and Luka Doncic for a really long time.
The NBA trade deadline is on the horizon, and even though the Dallas Mavericks have already made one trade, they might be eyeing one more piece to add to this team in Danilo Gallinari. The Oklahoma City Thunder were shopping him earlier in the season, but now the team might be looking to hold onto him. Danilo Gallinari would be an ideal fit with Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis as a scorer, but his defensive ability leaves stuff to be desired. The Mavs could be one piece away from pushing themselves into the top four of the Western Conference, and Danilo Gallinari could be that piece for the Dallas Mavericks.
