NBA free agency is already over a week old, and most of the big names agreed to deals with teams. However, there are still several quality players available and a few trade rumblings across the league. Here are the latest NBA rumors and news you need to know:
Saric leaving Turkey to join Sixers
Croatian forward Dario Saric, the No. 12 overall pick in the 2014 draft by Philadelphia, announced that he will leave his team in Turkey to join the 76ers for the upcoming season, according to Sportnado:
After winning the MVP title in Pre-Olympic Tournament in Turin, Dario Saric confirmed that he’ll play for the Philadelphia 76ers next season. Saric will come back to Zagreb for a couple of days and then he’ll join his new teammates in Las Vegas where they’re playing in the Summer League.
Saric wasn't expected to join the Sixers until next season, and he'll provide them with a sharpshooting stretch four that can play some small forward.
Pistons to lose Caldwell-Pope next season?
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has emerged as one of the more promising young shooting guards in the league thanks to a breakout season last year, and that means he may not be in Detroit much longer. According to the Detroit Free Press, KCP is likely to sign elsewhere in free agency next summer:
There was speculation among observers at the Orlando Pro Summer League that Caldwell-Pope could seek a multi-year deal worth around $20 million per season – understandable if you see the money being thrown around this off-season. That’s a price the Pistons are probably unwilling to pay – they’d rather get a deal around $15 million per season. Further complicating matters is news that the luxury tax for the 2017-18 season is projected at $122 million – down from an April projection $127 million.
The Pistons are going to be over the cap $104 million cap for 2017-18 but a significant Caldwell-Pope raise would have the Pistons threatening the luxury tax line and its expensive penalties. If no deal is reached by late October, Caldwell-Pope becomes a restricted free agent next off-season.
Caldwell-Pope averaged 14.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per game last season.
