The NBA Dunk Contest has seen a major decrease in popularity over the past decade, but there was a time where it was the must-see event of All-Star weekend. Here are the six best dunk contests and performances of all time:
6) Michael Jordan, 1987 Slam Dunk Contest
Michael Jordan vs. Dominique Wilkins, Episode Two. This laid the foundation for the outstanding 1988 contest, which we'll see later in the list.
5) Blake Griffin, 2011 Slam Dunk Contest
Blake Griffin, Dwight Howard, Serge Ibaka, JaVale McGee, and DeMar DeRozan headlined the best dunk contest since the early 2000's, and there hasn't been one to top it since. It also gave us one of the signature dunks in the contest's history - Blake Griffin jumping over a car.
4) Dominique Wilkins, 1985 Slam Dunk Contest
This started the Michael Jordan-Dominique Wilkins rivalry, but they were joined by Julius Erving, Clyde Drexler, and Larry Nance in what is considered to be the deepest dunk contest ever. However, Wilkins emerged on top by putting up two perfect scores in the finals against MJ.
3) Spud Webb, 1986 Slam Dunk Contest
Nothing like seeing a 5'7" guy dunk over...and over...and over again!
2) Vince Carter, 2000 Slam Dunk Contest
This is crowning moment of Vince Carter's career, as he gave a performance that may never be matched again.
1) Michael Jordan, 1988 Dunk Contest
Michael Jordan vs. Dominique Wilkins, The Final Episode gave us the most iconic dunk in history - MJ's free throw line jam.
