2020 NBA Draft: 5 Draft Prospects The Dallas Mavs Should Consider With Their 1st Round Draft Pick

If the NBA season does not return, the very next move for the Dallas Mavericks will be looking toward the 2020 NBA Draft. As it currently stands, the Dallas Mavericks would have the 18th overall pick in the NBA Draft, which would provide them with the opportunity to add high-quality draft talent just outside of the lottery. One name that has recently popped up as a potential faller in the draft is Tyrese Maxey from the University of Kentucky. Maxey had a good freshman year as the Wildcats’ guard, but not enough to make him a surefire lottery pick. If Maxey does fall to 18, the Dallas Mavericks should draft immediately and let him compliment Luka Doncic in the backcourt. IN THE VIDEO ABOVE AND BELOW, Jimmy Crowther, host of NBA Now, breaks down 5 draft prospects for the Mavs.

Another player that was once projected as a top-5 pick that may be sliding down draft boards is RJ Hampton, who played in New Zealand this past year instead of playing a year of college basketball. Like Tyrese Maxey, RJ Hampton is a Texas native, and could find himself in a Dallas Mavericks’ jersey to start his career, if he continues to slide down draft boards. Hampton is an incredible playmaker with a long body that can get to the rim with ease. His jumpshot fell off a bit in his professional career overseas, but it’s not a major concern. His ability to get to the rim and be a secondary playmaker next to Luka Doncic could make him a prime candidate for the Dallas Mavericks in the 2020 NBA Draft

Jahmi’us Ramsey of Texas Tech had an outstanding freshman season for the Red Raiders. His jumpshot became one of the most reliable in college basketball, and as another DFW native, he might be perfect for the Mavericks who are always looking to add jump shooters around Luka Doncic. Ramsey’s game outside of his jumper leaves a little bit to be desired, but as a specialist, he makes a lot of sense as a top-20 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Aaron Nesmith from Vanderbilt is one of the best pure shooters in the draft this year. Nesmith’s shooting ability immediately makes him a lock to be a first-round pick this year, but one of the more underrated parts of Nesmith’s game is his defense. The Dallas Mavericks could use a valuable 3-&-D wing like Nesmith off the bench. With Luka Doncic’s passing ability, Nesmith could easily reach his full potential. Another player that could make sense for the Mavericks as a wing is Josh Green from Arizona. His defense is by far the best part of his game, but his athletic ability will improve his draft stock as well.

5 Potential Draft Prospects for the Dallas Mavericks:
Tyrese Maxey
RJ Hampton
Jahmi’us Ramsey
Aaron Nesmith
Josh Green
