It was a crazy confluence of events that led Jamir Tillman to the Naval Academy.
Tillman was lightly recruited coming out of Bishop Gorman High, in part because all the recruiting websites listed the wide receiver at 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds as a senior even though he was much bigger after going through a growth spurt during the spring and summer.
Recruiters at many Football Bowl Subdivision schools did not pull the trigger because they couldn't figure out why the University of Nevada-Las Vegas had not offered a scholarship.
"Some of the scouts were wondering why isn't the hometown school offering," said Cedric Tillman, who coached his son at every level.
