Super sophomores propel Navy lacrosse

Defense has never been a problem for the Navy men's lacrosse team. Since 2000, the Midshipmen have ranked top four nationally 10 times and No. 1 three times in scoring defense.

Coach Rick Sowell knew in order to lift the program to another level he needed to develop a more potent offense. The Midshipmen have taken a big step forward this season, averaging 10.3 goals per game, their highest total since 2007.

A pair of sophomores have stepped up and played a big part in making the Mids a more dangerous offensive outfit. Attackman Jack Ray and midfielder Casey Rees are tied for the team lead with 18 goals apiece through nine games.
