Summer homework helped Abey improve mental game

Zach Abey must have felt like he was back at Archbishop Spalding during the months of June and July. Offensive coordinator Ivin Jasper required the quarterback to do summer reading and daily studying while on vacation from the academy.

"Coach Jasper had assignments, homework so to speak, for Zach all summer. He had an elaborate script of different things for Zach to work on this offseason," head coach Ken Niumatalolo said during a press conference on Saturday morning. "Football didn't stop for Zach after spring ball. His maturation process continued during the summer by being in constant communication with Coach Jasper.
