It was go big or go back to the Naval Academy for ace pitcher Noah Song.
Song knew if he was not taken in the first few rounds of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft that he would return to Navy for his senior season.
“Basically, what it came down to was that a team would have to offer a ridiculous amount of money for me to even consider not graduating from the academy,” Song said. “It had to be in the seven-figure range or higher, which pretty much means the first or second round.”
When Song was not selected high enough to warrant a signing bonus of $1 million or more, his adviser informed Major League Baseball that he would not sign if drafted.
