SOUTH BEND, Ind. – There’s no mystery about what Navy and Notre Dame want to do offensively when college football’s longest, continuous, intersectional rivalry resumes on Saturday in the shadow of Touchdown Jesus.
This figures to be a classic smash-mouth contest as both the Fighting Irish and Midshipmen try to ram the ball down each other’s throats.
Navy leads the nation in rushing offense with 369.8 yards per game while Notre Dame ranks sixth in that same category at an average of 303.2 yards. In fact, the Fighting Irish stand second in rushing among Football Bowl Subdivision schools that don’t employ the option.
