Former Navy players Keenan Reynolds and Chris Swain have apparently cleared the last hurdle toward pursuing professional football.
Secretary of Defense Ash Carter announced during his commencement address at the Naval Academy graduation on Friday that he has approved Reynolds and Swain to try out for the National Football League effective immediately.
Reynolds was a sixth-round draft choice of the Baltimore Ravens while Swain signed with the San Diego Chargers as a free agent.
Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus had previously announced he was recommending Reynolds and Swain be permitted to pursue the NFL.
