Quarterbacks will be in spotlight when Navy hosts Tulane in conference opener

Zach Abey erased any lingering doubts about his ability to lead Navy’s triple-option offense during Friday night’s season opener.

Abey set an American Athletic Conference record for rushing yards by a quarterback by rumbling for 235. The 6-foot-2, 212-pound junior did most of his damage between the tackles and broke loose for touchdown runs of 23 and 40 yards. The Pasadena resident was a real workhorse, carrying the ball 32 times on the night.

Abey, who also completed three passes for 110 yards, was named American Athletic Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
