QB Malcolm Perry summoned from stands during opener

Malcolm Perry marched into Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium along with the Brigade of Midshipmen. A few hours later, Perry was marching the Navy football team down the field.

Navy literally pulled Perry out of the stands to play quarterback in Saturday's season opener against Fordham. The plebe was pressed into duty after starting quarterback Tago Smith suffered a knee injury early in the second quarter.

Smith's injury, which is believed to be season-ending, left Navy without a backup quarterback. That's because third stringer Zach Abey, an Archbishop Spalding product, had been suspended for the game by head coach Ken Niumatalolo due to a violation of team rules.
