Coming off one of its best seasons ever, the Navy women’s basketball team has started off on the right foot this year.
The Mids have won their first two games, including Sunday’s home opener against Rider, a 63-44 runaway at Alumni Hall that was even more one-sided than the final margin might suggest.
It was the sixth straight victory for the Mids in a home opener. Navy blew open a tie game in the first quarter with strong rebounding and transition play, going on runs of 8-0 and 6-0 as they doubled-up their opponents.
Carrying over the strong second-half play from their season-opening win against Marist two days earlier, the Mids took control in the second quarter, outscoring Rider 22-7 for a 41-20 halftime lead.
