Navy is starting spring football practice much later than normal, and for good reason.
Malcolm Perry, the team’s newly-minted starting quarterback, has been recovering from a foot injury suffered in the Military Bowl.
Perry, who was still moving gingerly using crutches at the Navy football banquet in early February, recently received clearance to begin running. Head coach Ken Niumatalolo said this week that he purposefully pushed back spring camp so Perry could participate.
“We wanted Malcolm back. That is why our spring camp is starting so late this year,” Niumatalolo said. “I just felt like practicing without Malcolm out there would be a waste.
