Memphis free safety Jonathan Cook read the play and filled the gap. The solidly-built 198-pounder was in position to lay a big hit on Navy slotback Darryl Bonner.
However, Cook suddenly had his legs taken out from under him by another slotback. Calvin Cass Jr. upended Cook, who was left grasping for air as Bonner blew past him for a big gain.
That scenario played out repeatedly during Navy's 42-28 victory over Memphis. Slotbacks teamed to total 159 rushing yards for the Midshipmen, who made the Tigers pay for loading up inside to stop the mid-line option that was so effective throughout the game.
