Coach Ken Niumatalolo walked into the Ricketts Hall weight room on Monday and saw the entire Navy football team gathered around senior captains Keenan Reynolds and Bernie Sarra.
Niumatalolo moved closer and listened as Reynolds and Sarra warned their teammates to not read the press clippings or get too happy about people patting them on the back in the wake of Saturday night's upset of Memphis.
It was the same message Niumatalolo had planned to deliver at the next team meeting and now he didn't need to do so.
"I heard Keenan and Bernie telling everyone not to listen to the outside noise, to just continue to grind and focus on the details," Niumatalolo told the audience at a Navy football luncheon on Tuesday.
