Navy must play close to perfect to upset West Division leader Houston

Houston committed a whopping 12 penalties totaling 115 yards during last Saturday’s game against East Carolina. Those were easily season highs in both categories for the Cougars.

Houston had five holding calls, including one on defense that wiped out an interception. There were also three false starts, two pass interference calls, an illegal man downfield and a personal foul for targeting that led to the ejection of safety Gleson Sprewell.

“It was frustrating. It just seemed like we couldn’t get out of our own way,” head coach Major Applewhite said.

Most teams would not be able to withstand such a high number of infractions.
