For a placekicker, one’s psyche can go from the heroic thrill of victory to the disappointing agony of defeat as quickly as a two-field goal day can be ruined by a missed kick with the game on the line.
In last December’s 14-13 loss to Army, Navy kicker Bennett Moehring felt both. Early in the game, he made a pair of short field goals to keep the Midshipmen within points of their arch-rival.
And as the game clock ticked down, the Mids moved to inside the 25, a comfortable distance for the dependable Moehring to nail the game-winner.
