The Golden Hurricane are off to a 3-1 start a year after going 4-8 and finishing with a losing record for the third straight season. Since 2017, Tulsa has compiled a 9-27 mark.
Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo, however, is not surprised to see Tulsa tied atop the American Athletic Conference standings alongside No. 6 Cincinnati. The Golden Hurricane are 3-0 in the AAC for the first time in seven seasons as a member.
“I think Tulsa has always been an underrated team. Every year they’ve been good, but they’ve had these close losses. They play with everybody; they’ve just had some hard luck over the years,” Niumatalolo said.
