Navy football has settled on a starter at left tackle, but the left guard competition continues and might come down to a game-time decision.
Running game coordinator Ashley Ingram announced Wednesday that Luca Fratianne will get the start at left tackle for Monday night’s season opener against BYU. Fratianne beat out Kurt Stengel following a spirited battle throughout training camp.
Fratianne was buried on the depth chart and appeared in just one game last season. However, the graduation of starter Kendel Wright combined with backup Justin Self switching to center created openings at left tackle.
Stengel was listed atop the depth chart going into preseason practice, but was overtaken by Fratianne, a product of Newbury Park High in Simi Valley, California.
