Senior wide receiver Ryan Mitchell suffered a season-ending injury Saturday night against SMU, effectively ending his college career.
Mitchell absorbed an upper body injury at some point in the second half and head athletic trainer Jim Berry initially feared the worst. By the time coach Ken Niumatalolo got into the visiting locker room, team doctors had conducted an examination and confirmed the bad news.
“Ryan is probably done. It’s a tough one. He’s a great leader on our football team,” Niumatalolo said Wednesday. “We’re going to miss Ryan. It was a pretty emotional deal after the game.
