Coach Ken Niumatalolo said it immediately following the Houston game and a review of the film bore out his assessment: Navy’s offensive struggles are a collective effort, and every member of the unit shares the blame.
Statistically, this is one of the weakest attacks the Midshipmen have put on the field during the triple-option era. Navy’s triple-option offense is producing just 186.3 rushing yards per game.
That is foreign territory for a program that has consistently ranked at the top of the Football Bowl Subdivision in rushing yardage. Since former coach Paul Johnson installed the system in 2002, Navy has led the nation in rushing six times or finished second or third another five times.
