NAVY KEY: Pressure the quarterback; don't get beat deep
One of Navy's stated goals going into this season was to be more aggressive on defense. Interim defensive coordinator Dale Pehrson said the Mids needed to create more havoc in order to improve a third down conversion defense that was among the nation's worst in 2014. There mixed returns on this front from the season opener against Colgate. While Navy defenders did succeed in breaking into the backfield on numerous occasions, they were unable to sack or hit elusive quarterback Jake Melville. Effectively pressuring quarterback Blake Kemp is the key to derailing East Carolina's up-tempo passing attack.
