HOUSTON – Navy’s vaunted triple-option offense sputtered badly in the second half while the defense suffered several costly breakdowns in pass coverage as a disappointing second half of the season continued.
Quarterback D’Eriq King completed 21 of 27 passes for 277 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for 57 yards and two scores as Houston dominated the second half in beating Navy, 24-14, before an announced crowd of 29,252 at TDECU Stadium.
Wide receiver Steven Dunbar amassed 142 yards and a touchdown on eight catches for the Cougars, who sent their seniors out with a win and secured second place in the West Division of the American Athletic Conference.
