A season of transition begins on Friday for the Navy baseball team.
Gone are position players Travis Blue, Leland Saile and Adrian Chinnery – each four-year starters. All three were key offensive contributors, and in the case of Blue, a shortstop, and Chinnery, a catcher, two vital defensive positions were vacated.
“Obviously, we’ve had that luxury of having those two defensively and, certainly, all three as a presence in the lineup,’’ said Navy coach Paul Kostacopoulos, whose team has won the last three Patriot League regular-season titles. “You don’t simply replace — that takes time to work on.
