Going into this season, Navy was thin at fullback and had plenty of quality depth at slotback. Head coach Ken Niumatalolo consulted with his offensive assistants and addressed the fullback problem by tapping into the slotback surplus.
Josh Walker switched from slotback to fullback prior to spring practice and it proved a brilliant move. Walker won the backup job behind Chris High during August training camp and made a tremendous debut at his new position during the season opener.
Walker rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries against Florida Atlantic, providing a nice change-of-pace to High.
