Scott McBrien is a shining example for why patience and perseverance — along with an occasional change of scenery — can pay off in athletics.
As a youngster, McBrien was determined to become a baseball player and shunned the game of football. However, a close friend convinced the Montgomery County native to join a youth football league and that would surpass baseball as his primary sport.
McBrien began his high school football career at Good Counsel after being recruited out of the powerful Maplewood Athletic Association. Things did not work out at the Olney school so McBrien transferred to DeMatha Catholic, where he blossomed into a first team All-Metro selection by The Washington Post.
