BALTIMORE – Hope springs eternal and that was the general sentiment shared by many Orioles fans on Opening Day.
Baltimore finished last in the American League East Division a year ago and brought back basically the same batting lineup. A couple spring training additions bolstered a threadbare starting pitching rotation, but most Major League baseball pundits still project the Orioles to finish fourth or fifth in the highly-competitive AL East.
Many Anne Arundel County fans interviewed by The Capital on Opening Day are not buying into the doom-and-gloom. Arnold resident Mark Maloney had high hopes for the O’s before the ballclub added starting pitchers Alex Cobb and Andrew Cashner during spring training.
