Legendary television broadcaster Verne Lundquist will never forget the first Army-Navy game he worked. It was 2000 and the Midshipmen and Black Knights both came in with 1-10 records.
Quarterback Brian Broadwater threw for a touchdown and ran for another as Navy withstood a furious Army rally and won a nailbiter, 30-28, at what was then called PSINet Stadium in Baltimore.
"It was an exciting game, an emotional game and I learned very quickly why the records do not matter one bit in this rivalry," Lundquist recalled.
Lundquist will serve as play-by-play announcer for his ninth Army-Navy game on Saturday at that same facility, which is now called M&T Bank Stadium.
