Jarren Jasper is recovering nicely two days after his heart transplant and doctors at Children’s National Medical Center are encouraged by his progress, the family reports.
Jarren underwent the transplant in the wee hours of Tuesday morning and made it through the initial 24-hour recovery period with no complications. Doctors told the Jasper family those first 24 hours are critical to transplant patients in terms of determining whether the body accepts or rejects the new organ.
Donna Jasper sat bedside with her 14-year-old son throughout the first night in the intensive care unit and doctors were extremely pleased that his new heart was beating on its own with no problems.
