It didn’t take long for the Navy football team to give the 4,000-strong socially distanced and masked Brigade of Midshipmen in the stands something to cheer about Saturday night against Temple at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
A methodical 17-play opening drive capped by a touchdown on fourth down set off the cannons and allowed some of the midshipmen to show off their socially distanced pushups for the first time in 2020.
“Though they’ve lacked in pushups on camera at the football games, they’re making up for it in the hall,” cheerleader Cristina Gibson, a senior, said at halftime as Navy led, 21-10, “so they’re still getting the same amount of training.
